About the Concert
Are you in the mood for drama, love, and a bit of madness? Hector Berlioz invites you to an emotional rollercoaster ride with his "Symphonie fantastique"! This masterpiece is like a movie without a screen - everything happens in your mind. Berlioz tells the story of a young artist who is hopelessly in love. His feelings range in all directions: from romantic infatuation to wild jealousy to dark nightmares. The music is explosive, imaginative, and full of surprises. A highlight is the "Witches' Sabbath", where Berlioz pushes the boundaries of music and stages a haunting sound festival. The orchestra becomes a tool of pure emotion - from delicate harp sounds to thundering drums.
Entertaining and exciting, Malte Arkona briefly introduces the work first. Together with conductor Anja Bihlmaier and the orchestra, their favorite parts of the symphony are played: in a short time, you will understand why this masterpiece should be heard at least once in a lifetime and why it is considered one of the "Best of Classical Music". Afterwards, you can enjoy the symphony in a short concert. Then, we would be happy to welcome you at the bar on the 1st floor, where host Malte Arkona will engage in a conversation with Anja Bihlmaier on a small stage and gladly answer any questions from you!
Anja Bihlmaier is Principal Conductor of the Residentie Orkest in The Hague and Principal Guest Conductor of the BBC Philharmonic Orchestra. She performed at the BBC Proms in 2023 and 2024, and her career has also taken her throughout the rest of Europe and North America. As an accomplished opera conductor, she has mainly been engaged in Germany and Scandinavia. Her musical intuition and passion allied with precision make her one of the leading conductors of her generation.
The presenter, actor and voice actor Malte Arkona is known to many viewers from television, but is also one of the most sought-after music educators in the German-speaking world. He has been a regular stage partner of the Dresden Philharmonic in this capacity for many years and has been presenting its new "Best of Classics" series, which he co-designed, since the 2024/25 season. He also directs video clips for the orchestra, in which he can also be seen himself.
That is the claim of the Dresden Philharmonic Orchestra. The orchestra stands for concerts at the highest artistic level, musical education for all ages and looking beyond the musical horizon. Guest performances on almost every continent and collaborations with guests from all over the world have established the reputation of the Dresden Philharmonic Orchestra in the international classical music world.
