Elgar's Overture "In the South" combines Italian landscape impressions with late romantic splendor: passionate, colorful, rhythmically pulsating and full of vastness, elegance, and noble melancholy. In the south, we also encounter Joaquín Rodrigo's Guitar Concerto; its title refers to the famous gardens of Aranjuez. The composer brilliantly captured their atmosphere. The second, slow movement is one of the most well-known pieces in classical music. Elgar's Enigma Variations, with each of its 14 movements dedicated to a friend of Elgar, are also part of the classical standard repertoire. The most famous is certainly "Nimrod," which is often played at ceremonial events and has been frequently used in film soundtracks, including in "The War" with Cate Blanchett and in "Australia" with Nicole Kidman.Edward Elgar
