Igor Stravinsky
"The Firebird" Suite (1945)
What would a painting sound like if it were music? The Russian composer Modest Mussorgsky tried it out and the result was his famous "Pictures at an Exhibition". In a turbulent market, vendors bicker, a limping gnome creeps past, chirping chicks hatch from their eggshells and dance a ballet. Together with the orchestra and Malte Arkona, we also encounter the wicked witch Baba Yaga, meet children playing in the park, visit an old castle and pass through the Great Gate of Kiev. And this time the piece will be performed in a special arrangement by conductor Kahchun Wong. In addition to the Dresden Philharmonic Orchestra, original Chinese instruments will be used especially for you: the bowed tubular-necked lute Erhu, the dulcimer Yangqin, the transverse flute called Dizi and many more.
