Program
Edvard Grieg
Piano Concerto in A minor, Op. 16
Henryk Górecki
Symphony No. 3 "Symphony of Sorrowful Songs"
Contemporary music often has a hard time. Poland's Górecki's Third Symphony also initially failed with the critics. Until excerpts from it became pop hits in the USA and landed in the charts. Yet its subject matter is quite serious: Górecki wrote the music and vocal texts in reference to the Second World War and in particular the suffering in the concentration camps. The piano concerto, which helped the Norwegian Edvard Grieg achieve his international breakthrough, exudes a completely opposite mood. In it, the young composer had found the colors of his homeland. The freshness and special light of the north can be heard right from the first movement. A showpiece for Boris Giltburg, who can make all these colors shine.
The concerts on 10 and 11 MAY will take place as part of the commemoration of 80 years since the end of the Second World War and will also be performed in Wrocław.
They continue the cooperation between the Dresden Philharmonic and the NFM Wrocław Philharmonic.
