About the Concert

The string quartet is considered the supreme discipline of chamber music. It is therefore all the more fitting that this concert also features one of the most popular works for this instrumentation: Gabriel Fauré was particularly popular during his lifetime precisely because of his melodious, voluptuous works - and his second string concerto is no exception. It is, of course, an exception when chamber music is played in front of 2000 enthusiastic listeners, as this piece was in London during his lifetime. The musical range of the string quartet by the Latvian composer Vasks, who speaks his very own musical language, also extends from elegiac to dance-like. In this concert, musicians from the Dresden Philharmonic Orchestra set out to make it resound in all its facets.
