About the Concert
Gustav Mahler almost always composed based on his own mood. And so one would expect that he wrote his Sixth Symphony in not exactly cheerful spirits, as it is called the "Tragic". But precisely in the summer of 1903, he was feeling great! Perhaps one should keep this in mind when listening to the many march-like sections of the work and the cowbells, which remind one of a carefree hike in the mountains.
