Hardly anything has shaped our image of Mozart in recent times as much as "Amadeus", the Oscar-winning film by Miloš Forman from 1984. This was also contributed by the Adagio from the "Gran Partita", the Serenade for Winds in B-flat major, which is heard in it and which Mozart's antagonist Salieri describes as "music from heaven". But even those who are not familiar with the film will fall in love with this enchanting music - performed on this evening in an arrangement for oboe, strings, and piano. It was also Mozart who is said to have remarked that the oboe sounds like a "softly lamenting voice". This is of course somewhat one-sided, as the oboe can do much more. But it is true that its sound resembles the human voice, which has prompted many composers to give it the role of a singer, as in the two other works of this evening.August Klughardt
