"Summer, Sun, Holiday Time" - Finally, summer is here! The Philharmonic Children's Choir Dresden embarks on an exciting journey in search of summer songs from around the world. ›The sun laughs from the sky's tent, beckons us out into the green field, beckons us out to the meadow ground, where flowers bloom in vibrant colours‹. Songs from near and far tell thrilling stories and prepare us for the summer holiday. Old, familiar but also new and unknown melodies fill the hall and certainly invite everyone to sing along – because: singing together brings joy and good cheer.

Biographies

Gunter Berger

Choir Director / Direction children's and citizen's choir

Gunter Berger studied school music and orchestral conducting, but has devoted himself primarily to choral music since 1990. From 1990 to 2011, he led the MDR Children's Choir to European fame, and from summer 2012 he took over the direction of the Dresden Philharmonic Choir for ten years. Since 2022, he has concentrated on conducting the Dresden Philharmonic Children's Choir and the Bürgerchor am Kulti as well as on his numerous teaching activities, workshops and program ideas, with which he enriches the choral scene.

Daniel Haupt

As the Dresden Philharmonic's music educator, Daniel Haupt is on stage at many concerts as a presenter or speaker and/or is involved in program planning behind the scenes. After studying the flute in Leipzig and London, he initially worked as an orchestral musician and soloist. However, he had already become increasingly involved in the field of music education during his studies and later complemented his professional training with a degree in cultural and media management.

The Dresden Philharmonic Children’s Choir is one of Germany’s best-known and most successful children’s choirs and has a history stretching back almost sixty years. Its repertoire ranges from the Renaissance to the 21st century, encompassing works from many countries and cultures, from folk songs to pop adaptations.
