The Lithuanian soprano Aušrinė Stundytė has made a name for herself worldwide with her interpretations of complex female characters. Her future projects include two important role debuts: Polina in Prokofiev's "The Gambler" at the Stuttgart State Opera and Die Färberin in "Die Frau ohne Schatten" by Richard Strauss at the Dutch National Opera in Amsterdam.
After her highly acclaimed debut at the 2020 Salzburg Festival in the title role of "Elektra" by Richard Strauss under Franz Welser-Möst, she returned to Salzburg in 2022 as Judith in"Bluebeard's Castle" under the baton of Theodor Currentzis. In the summer of 2024, she made there her role debut as Nastasya Filippovna Barashkova in Mieczysław Weinberg's opera "The Idiot", directed by Krzysztof Warlikowski and conducted by Mirga Gražinytė-Tyla.
Among her recent career highlights are her role debut as Emilia Marty in Janáček's "The Makropulos Affair" in Lyon, Hector Parras' "Orgia" in Barcelona, "Bluebeard's Castle" in Vilnius, "Elektra" and "Tosca" at the Royal Opera House Covent Garden in London,"Katja Kabanova" in Bergen and Katerina Ismailova in Shostakovich's "Lady Macbeth of Mtsensk" in Paris and Geneva. At the Paris Philharmonie she has sung Judith in Bartók's "Bluebeard's Castle" at the side of Matthias Goerne.
At the Bavarian State Opera Munich, she sang Dido in Purcell's "Dido and Aeneas" and Schoenberg's "Erwartung" as well as the main soprano role Jeanne in "The Devils of Loudon" by Krzysztof Penderecki. She sung Elektra in Vienna, Hamburg and also in Rome with the Orchestra dell’Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia under Sir Antonio Pappano, Renata in Prokofiev's "The Fiery Angel" in Madrid, at the Aix-en-Provence Festival, in Munich, Lyon, at the Theater an der Wien and in Zurich.
Aušrinė Stundytė's wide repertoire also includes roles such as Salome, Heliane in "Das Wunder der Heliane", Regan in Aribert Reimann's "Lear", Marietta in Korngold's "Die tote Stadt", the title role in Hindemith's "Sancta Susanna", Carlotta in Franz Schreker's "Die Gezeichneten" and Leonore in "Fidelio".
The outstanding Dutch National Opera production of Zemlinsky's "Eine florentinische Tragödie "conducted by Marc Albrecht and with Aušrinė Stundytė in the role of Bianca, was recorded by the Pentatone label.
Aušrinė Stundytė comes from Vilnius, studied singing at the Lithuanian Academy of Music and at the Academy of Music and Theatre in Leipzig and has been awarded several scholarships and important international prizes.
She has worked with conductors such as Zubin Mehta, Gianandrea Noseda, Fabio Luisi, Kent Nagano, Julia Jones, Julian Kovatchev, Marco Armiliato, Dmitri Jurowski, Markus Stenz and Gabriel Feltz as well as with directors such as Calixto Bieito, Robert Carsen, Peter Konwitschny, Graham Vick, David Alden, Christof Nel, Pierre Audi, Tatjana Gürbaca, Anthony Pilavachi and Dmitri Tscherniakov.
As a concert singer, she has performed at venues including the Gewandhaus Leipzig, the Liederhalle Stuttgart, the Cologne and Essen Philharmonie, several concert halls in Tokyo and the Berlin Philharmonie.
Aušrinė Stundytė has recorded songs by Hermann Heyer with the MDR.
