Shortly after its founding in 1995 by Philharmonic musicians Andreas Kuhlmann and Fabian Dirr together with close friends - all of them outstanding musicians from Dresden's two top orchestras - the Carus Ensemble Dresden developed into a guarantor of excellent chamber music in a wide variety of stylistic epochs and instrumentations. The ensemble's repertoire thus extends from the beginnings of chamber music in the Baroque era through classical and Romantic mixed ensembles to contemporary music.
In collaboration with MDR and Bayr. Rundfunk, the ensemble has recorded and produced several world premieres.
The Carus Ensemble has been a guest at the International Organ Week in Nuremberg, the Saxon-Bohemian Music Festival, the Chamber Music Days in Hitzacker, the Hohenlohe Cultural Summer and many more.
Today, after almost 20 years of existence, it is impossible to imagine Dresden's musical life without the ensemble. Concert tours have taken the ambitious musicians all over Germany and as far as Poland, Italy and Japan.
The Carus Ensemble Dresden combines the great Saxon tradition of homogeneous sound with the ideas of modern and differentiated performance practice. In this sense, the ensemble has worked together with Tom Quaas and the dancer Katja Erfurth across all genres and in this way always strives to keep the spectrum of its work as broad as possible.
Tradition as passing on the fire!
