1st Principal Trumpet
in the orchestra since 1999

Christian Höcherl was born in Wörth an der Donau in 1973. He received his first trumpet lessons at the age of 15; after only a short time he was able to gain his first orchestral experience in the Bavarian State Youth Orchestra. From 1990 he received private lessons from Paul Lachenmeir, with whom he also studied at the University of Music and Theatre in Munich from 1994. He completed his major in 1999 with Hannes Läubin.

Since 1999 - with a two-year interruption from 2003 to 2005 with the Bavarian Radio Orchestra as deputy principal trumpet - Christian Höcherl has been the coordinated principal trumpet of the Dresden Philharmonic Orchestra.

In addition, he is a much sought-after guest with the most renowned orchestras, including the symphony orchestras of the NDR, the BR, the SWR, the Munich Philharmonic, the Staatskapelle Dresden, the Bavarian State Orchestra, the Munich Radio Orchestra under such distinguished conductors as Lorin Maazel, Zubin Mehta, Rafael Frühbeck de Burgos and Mariss Jansons.

He has performed successfully as a soloist with the Dresden Philharmonic Orchestra, the Pilsen Radio Symphony Orchestra and in the Dresden Frauenkirche, among others, as well as at various festivals, e.g. the Rheingau Music Festival, the Brandenburg Summer Concerts and the Mecklenburg-Vorpommern Festival.

Numerous CD recordings with the above-mentioned ensembles and orchestras document his artistic work in Germany and abroad, including South America, Japan, South Korea, China, Spain, Italy, Greece and Austria.

Christian Höcherl also devotes himself to chamber music. He plays with chamber music groups such as German Brass, Opera Brass, Semper Brass, Ensemble Frauenkirche and Bavarian Chamber Brass. That he is not only devoted to classical music, he shows e.g. with different Big Bands or also with Ernst Hutter & Die Egerländer Musikanten.

He passes on his musical skills and knowledge as a lecturer in various courses. He is also a sought-after jury member at competitions, e.g. the International Brass Competition Passau.
