Deutsche Streicherphilharmonie

The German String Philharmonic Orchestra
Germany's youngest top orchestra

They are between 11 and 20 years old and are already making music on the world's great stages. They regularly perform in the Golden Hall of the Vienna Musikverein, in the Cologne Philharmonic, at the Mecklenburg-Vorpommern Festival, the Dresden Music Festival or at Young Euro Classic in Berlin. The orchestra members of the Deutsche Streicherphilharmonie impress the audience with the excellence of their playing and inspire with a very special, collaborative atmosphere on stage. The intensive work of the instructors from the Rundfunk-Sin¬fonieorchester Berlin with the individual voice groups shapes the characteristic, extremely homogeneous string sound of the ensemble.
The orchestra was founded in 1973 in East Berlin as the Radio Music School Orchestra of the GDR under the direction of Helmut Koch. Since 1991 it has been under the auspices of the Association of German Music Schools, and since then has brought together the best string talents from music schools throughout the Federal Republic. Other distinguished conductors have followed Koch, and in 2013 Wolfgang Hentrich took over the baton from Michael Sanderling. The orchestra also works with world-renowned conductors such as Marek Janowski and Vladimir Jurowski, with shooting star at the baton Emmanuel Tjeknavorian, as well as with renowned instrumental virtuosos such as Julia Fischer or Daniel Hope and exceptional young talents such as Maria Dueñas or the brothers Arthur and Lucas Jussen. For the Deutsche Streicherphilharmonie, the year 2021 was especially marked by the collaboration with its first Artist in Residence, the outstanding percussionist Alexej Gerassimez.
The young top ensemble also makes a lasting impression on tours to neighboring countries as well as to distant foreign countries, from Denmark to Ecuador. The annual concerts at the Vienna Musikverein have become a fine tradition.
As a place of intensive musical education for young people, the Deutsche Streicherphilharmonie is a talent factory for qualified young professional musicians for top orchestras and soloist careers. Many former members play in renowned orchestras such as the Vienna Philharmonic, the Munich Philharmonic, the Berlin Radio Symphony Orchestra, the Sächsische Staatskapelle Dresden or the Metropolitan Opera Orchestra New York.
The Deutsche Streicherphilharmonie is sponsored by the German Federal Ministry for Family Affairs, Senior Citizens, Women and Youth.
