The Freies Ensemble Dresden was founded on the occasion of a performance of “Pierrot Lunaire” by Arnold Schönberg at a benefit concert in 2000. This starting point immediately revealed the ensemble's profile: free from the expectations of the mainstream, with the highest artistic quality and lively idealism, the Dresden musicians present well-thought-out programs. Since then, the list of performed works has grown steadily and the ensemble's repertoire is now unusually broad, with more than 230 works by 110 composers.
Consisting of outstanding musicians from the rich Dresden music scene, the Freies Ensemble Dresden opens up all possibilities of chamber music from duos to large ensembles. The members of the ensemble are sought-after chamber music partners on international stages and in media productions.
In its hometown, the Freies Ensemble Dresden shapes the musical scene with continuous creativity. It performs in the concert series of the Dresden Philharmonic and the Staatskapelle Dresden, as well as at the Dresden Music Festival and is regularly represented at regional festivals.
