Georg Köhler is the Runnicles Fellow with the Dresdner Philharmonie for the 2026/27 season and has held the post of Principal Conductor and Artistic Director of the Akademisches Kammerorchester Zürich since 2023.
Current highlights of his career include, alongside several engagements with the Dresdner Philharmonie, return invitations to orchestras such as the Bamberger Symphoniker, the Orchestre national d’Île-de-France and the Württembergische Philharmonie Reutlingen. His conducting debuts take him to the hr-Sinfonieorchester in Frankfurt, the Loh-Orchester Sondershausen and the Bayerisches Kammerorchester Bad Brückenau.
From 2021 to 2023, Georg Köhler was Assistant Conductor of the Orchestre national d’Île-de-France and gained international recognition in 2023 as a prize-winner at the Mahler Competition. Since then, his engagements have taken him to the Staatskapelle Dresden, the SWR Symphonieorchester, the Philharmonischen Orchester Erfurt, the Staatsorchester Hannover, the Sinfonieorchester Basel, the Orchestra della Svizzera italiana, the Turku Philharmonic und the National Symphony Orchestra Dublin, amongst others.
Georg Köhler studied at the conservatoires in Stuttgart and Zurich, graduating "with distinction" under Johannes Schlaefli. He gained valuable insights through masterclasses with Bernard Haitink, Esa-Pekka Salonen and David Zinman.
