Martin Schicketanz studied at the Dresden University of Music with Christiane Junghanns and Olaf Bär. In the field of early music he works with renowned ensembles such as the International Bach Academy Stuttgart, the Rheinische Kantorei, the Collegium Marianum, the Baroque Orchestra Wroclaw, the Ensemble Inégal or the Collegium 1704 under Vaclav Luks. He gives guest performances throughout Europe at festivals such as the Gstaad Menuhin Festival, the BOZAR Festival, the Bachwoche Ansbach, the Bachfest Leipzig, Resonanzen Wien, Musikfest Stuttgart, Early Music Festival Stockholm, Abendmusiken Basel or the Telemann-Festtage Magdeburg.
He has a close working relationship with the Dresdner Kammerchor and Hans-Christoph Rademann: not only was he involved in the complete Schütz recording, but he also regularly sings bass parts at joint concerts. With his solo vocal ensemble Ælbgut, he recorded the 2nd version of Bach's St. John Passion in entirely soloistic instrumentation for Coviello Classics. The CD was awarded the OPUS KLASSIK 2020. Also with Ælbgut, Bach's Mass in B minor was broadcast live as the closing concert of the Bachfest Leipzig 2020 in a corona-conditioned setup with only 5 singers and 12 instrumentalists. As baritone of the Prague ensemble Cappella Mariana, he also devotes himself to Renaissance polyphony.
Last year saw CD recordings such as the application cantatas for the Thomaskantorat by Telemann, Graupner and Bach with Ælbgut. In addition, Martin Schicketanz performed for the first time with Weser Renaissance in October and recorded Jan Dismas Zelenka's "Missa Charitatis" with the "Ensemble Inégal".
