Niklas Jahn

Niklas Jahn took up the position of organist at the Frauenkirche in Dresden in December 2024. The church musician, concert organist and conductor pursues his passion in many different ways, sharing his love of music with his fellow human beings through meaningful and energetic concerts.

His busy international concert schedule has already taken him to Japan, England, France, Holland, Liechtenstein, Austria, Poland, Portugal, Italy and Switzerland. He always strives to focus his programmes on the special and unpredictable: the art of improvisation gives his concerts a special touch. He skilfully masters the balancing act between improvisation in all historical styles and improvisation in free form and style.

Niklas Jahn developed a passion for music at an early age. While still at school, he began early studies at the Mainz University of Music with Hans-Jürgen Kaiser. From 2016 to 2021, he completed his bachelor's degree in church music there, studying organ with Gerhard Gnann and Hans-Jürgen Kaiser and conducting with Ralf Otto and Wolfram Koloseus, among others. He then continued his studies at the University of Music in Freiburg. There he studied choral conducting with Frank Markowitsch, master organ improvisation with David Franke, and earned a master's degree in church music with Matthias Maierhofer, Vincent Dubois, and David Franke. He then became the first student at the university to complete the two concert exam courses in organ improvisation and artistic organ performance.

Niklas Jahn himself held a teaching position at the University of Music Saar in Saarbrücken for organ literature performance and improvisation and continues his teaching activities at the University of Music in Freiburg as a substitute professor in the main subject of organ improvisation and as a lecturer for organ literature performance and organ improvisation at the University of Music in Weimar.

Niklas Jahn has received numerous awards for his outstanding achievements, including first prize at the St. Albans International Organ Competition and first prize at the International Organ Competition Musashino-Tokyo. He has achieved further success at the organ improvisation competition in Haarlem and the organ competition in Korschenbroich, among others. He received the Culture Promotion Award from the Rotary Club Mainz and the Prize from the Society for the Promotion of the University of Music Freiburg. He is also a scholarship holder of the German National Academic Foundation and the Helene Rosenberg Foundation.
