Nino Haratischwili, born in 1983 in Tbilisi, Georgia, is a multi-award-winning author, theatre director and playwright. She studied directing at the State Institute of Film and Theatre in Tbilisi and theatre directing at the Hamburg Theatre Academy. Today she is one of the most significant voices in contemporary German-language literature and has received, among others, the Literaturpreis des Kulturkreises der deutschen Wirtschaft (Literature Prize of the Cultural Committee of German Business), the Anna Seghers Prize and the Bertolt Brecht Prize.

Her international breakthrough came with the epic "Das achte Leben (Für Brilka)". Her other works published by Frankfurter Verlagsanstalt include "Mein sanfter Zwilling", "Die Katze und der General" and "Das mangelnde Licht" – novels characterised by powerful language and an intense engagement with history and identity. In 2024, the publisher also released her work "Löwenherzen", created in collaboration with the artist and illustrator Julia B. Nowikowa. Nino Haratischwili’s book "Europa, wach auf!", published in 2025, contains texts and speeches from 2013 to 2025 as a plea for the defence of democracy in troubled times.

Her plays – such as the recent Queens trilogy "Phädra, in Flammen", "Penthesilea. Ein Requiem" and "Kein Schicksal, Klytämnestra" – have also been highly successful on German-speaking and Georgian stages, and some are directed by her personally.
