The Philharmonische Kinderchor Dresden can look back on a history of over fifty years. It is one of the most famous and successful children's choirs in Germany. Currently, around 140 girls and boys sing in the choir's various formations. The main focus is on joint concerts with the Dresden Philharmonic and the children's choir's own concerts. Their programs include works from the Renaissance to the 21st century, from folk songs to pop adaptations (Abba, Beatles...).
In addition to concert tours in Germany, the Philharmonische Kinderchor also tours internationally. In recent years, the choir has toured Japan, China, the United States, the United Arab Emirates, England, France, Australia and South Africa for concerts, school projects and workshops. In the fall of 2024, the choir travelled to China; concerts in Austria, Slovakia and the Czech Republic are planned for the fall of 2025.
Radio, film and television productions, as well as numerous CD recordings (mainly for Sony) are testament to the choir's high quality and popularity with audiences.
The Philharmonische Kinderchor has won multiple awards at national and international competitions. Most recently, it was invited to perform at the European Parliament in Strasbourg as an ambassador for Dresden. The choir is directed by Gunter Berger and his team.
