Philipp Hösli

2nd Bassoon

Philipp Hösli was born in Zurich in 1990 and received his first bassoon lessons from his father at the age of 11.
He began his studies in 2009 at the Zurich University of the Arts with Matthias Racz, followed by a master's degree with Giorgio Mandolesi and a masterclass degree with Prof Jörg Thomé at the HMT Leipzig.
During his studies, he was awarded several prizes, including from ‘Migros Kulturprozent’, the ‘Concours National d'Exécution Musicale de Riddes’ and the Friedl-Wald Foundation Basel.
From 2016 to 2018, he was an Academician at the Zurich Opera House, before which he played as a substitute with the Dresden Philharmonic Orchestra.
He was then employed as principal contrabassoonist with the Bochum Symphony Orchestra for 5 years. Since August 2023, he has held the position of 2nd bassoon with obligation to contrabassoon at the Dresden Philharmonic.

He regularly plays as a substitute in leading orchestras such as the Tonhalle Orchestra Zurich, the Gürzenich Orchestra Cologne, the Konzerthausorchester Berlin and the HR Symphony Orchestra Frankfurt. 

He was also a member of the Bayreuth Festival Orchestra in 2024.
