Stanišić, was born in 1978 in Višegrad, formerly Yugoslavia, came to Germany with his parents in 1992 during the Bosnian war, where he is now celebrated as an author of German-language literature, especially when he performs his own texts on stage.
He writes novels, short stories and children's books, which have been translated into more than forty languages and have won several awards, including “Wie der Soldat das Grammofon repariert” (2010), “Vor dem Fest” (2015) and “Fallensteller” (2018). In 2019, he received the German Book Prize for his novel “Herkunft”.
Saša Stanišić lives and works in Hamburg. He is a soccer coach for an F-youth team there.
