Domorganist Sebastian Freitag

Sebastian Freitag has been the organist at the Dresden cathedral (former Hofkirche) since 2022, where he plays the Gottfried Silbermann organ from 1755, the last and largest instrument made at the traditional workshop. From 2013 to 2022, he worked as a deanery church musician in Paderborn and previously from 2011 to 2013 as the Paderborn interim cathedral organist.

From 2017 to 2021, he held a teaching position for organ at the University of Paderborn, and since the winter semester 2024/25 he has been teaching liturgical organ playing and organ literature playing at the Dresden University of Church Music.

In 2018, Sebastian Freitag performed the complete organ works of Johann Sebastian Bach in 15 concerts in Paderborn. They were followed in 2019 by the complete organ works of César Franck and in 2021 by the complete works of Dietrich Buxtehude.

Sebastian Freitag studied church music (A exam) and organ (concert exam) at the Detmold University of Music with Gerhard Weinberger, Martin Sander and Tomasz Adam Nowak.
