Sreten Manojlovic

With a voice that combines power, versatility and deep expression, bass-baritone Sreten Manojlović has established himself as a captivating performer on stages across Europe, particularly in the 18th-century repertoire. He completed his studies at the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna (MDW), whilst his collaboration with the Belgrade Baroque Academy had a lasting influence on his artistic development.

He first gained international recognition in 2019 when he was accepted into Les Arts Florissants’ Jardin des Voix programme for young artists. Under the musical direction of William Christie and the direction of Sophie Daneman, he sang the role of Nardo in Mozart’s "La finta giardiniera" on a European tour. Since then, he has worked regularly with the French ensemble, for example in Haydn’s "The Seasons" and Handel’s "L’allegro, il penseroso ed il moderato", which was also released as a recording on Harmonia Mundi.

As Polyphemus in Handel’s "Acis and Galatea" at the Concertgebouw Amsterdam, Sreten Manojlović opened the 2022 season under the musical direction of Leonardo García Alarcón and directed by Pierre Audi. With dark timbres and mechanical agility, he lent the Cyclops a deeply menacing and monstrous presence.

Also in 2022, he made his debut as Figaro in Mozart’s "Le nozze di Figaro" at Theater Aachen. There he also appeared as Gelone in Antonio Cesti’s "Orontea" – a performance that received particular acclaim. Under the musical direction of Benjamin Bayl, he took on the roles of Rambaldo in Vivaldi’s "Griselda" and Lotario in Handel’s "Flavio" at the Bayreuth Baroque Opera Festival.

At the International Handel Festival in Göttingen in 2024, he sang in "Sarrasine", a pastiche of Handel arias, under the baton of George Petrou. The work centred on the eponymous novella by Honoré de Balzac, in which Sreten Manojlović played the part of the author. With George Petrou, he returned to the Handel Festival in 2025 as Leone in Handel’s "Tamerlano" and simultaneously made his debut as Lucifer in Handel’s "La Resurrezione" at the Megaron Concert Hall in Athens.

The 2025/26 season will see his first collaborations with the Camerata Salzburg and Dorothee Oberlinger, as well as with the Heidelberg Theatre under Jörg Halubek. He will also continue his collaboration with Leonardo García Alarcón, taking on the role of Pan in J. S. Bach’s "Geschwinde, ihr wirbelnden Winde" at the Maison de Radio et de la Musique in Paris. With Les Arts Florissants, he will appear as the bass soloist in Bach's "Christmas Oratorio" and as Argante in Handel’s "Rinaldo" under Paul Agnew, and will once again sing the role of Simon in Haydn’s "The Seasons" under William Christie.
