Thomas Ospital was born in the French Basque Country in 1990 and has been Titular Organist of the great organ of Saint-Eustache in Paris since 2015. From 2016 to 2019, he was Principal Resident Organist at the Maison de la Radio in Paris.
His career as a concert organist has taken him throughout France, across Europe, to the United States and Australia. The art of improvisation occupies an important place in his musical practice, and he is committed to preserving it in all its diversity; for him, this also includes accompanying silent films on the organ.
For his debut album, he recorded works by Franz Liszt on the grand organ of Saint-Eustache (Hortus-Verlag, September 2017). His second album, released in 2018, was recorded on the organ of the Radio France auditorium and was dedicated to improvisations and works by Johann Sebastian Bach, which were combined with the Choral Études by Thierry Escaich, which Thomas Ospital also premiered. Since then, he has participated in the recording of numerous other albums.
Thomas Ospital is passionate about passing on his knowledge and is regularly invited to teach literature performance and improvisation in masterclasses. Since 2017, he has been professor of keyboard accompaniment at the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique et de Danse de Paris and, since 2021, also professor of organ.
Thomas Ospital began his music studies at the Conservatoire de Bayonne with Esteban Landart and continued them at the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique et de Danse de Paris, where he obtained five degrees with the highest distinction, "Premier Prix". His teachers include Olivier Latry, Michel Bouvard, Thierry Escaich, Philippe Lefebvre, Fabien Waksman, Isabelle Duha and Pierre Pincemaille.
As a prize winner in several international competitions (Zaragoza, Chartres, Toulouse, Grand Prix Florentz of the Académie des Beaux-Arts), he was Young Artist in Residence for six months at Saint Louis King of France Cathedral in New Orleans, USA.
