Viola Bürck

Clarinet

Viola Zamira Katharina Bürck was born in 2000 into a family of musicians and grew up in the Tübingen area. At the age of five, she began violin lessons (from the age of eleven with Fabian Wettstein), at seven she additionally took up recorder lessons (with Andrea Vinçon), and at eleven she also started clarinet lessons (with Rudolf Mauz).

After completing her Abitur, she first chose to pursue a bachelor’s degree in violin with Prof. Boris Kucharsky at the Trossingen University of Music, graduating in 2024. In only her second semester (2021), she additionally began a bachelor’s degree in clarinet at the same university in the class of Prof. Chen Halevi, which she successfully completed in 2025 with excellent results. In 2023, she spent a semester abroad through Erasmus at the Academia Nacional Superior d’Orquestra in Lisbon, studying with Prof. Nuno Silva (clarinet) and Prof. Ana Pereira (violin).

During her youth, Viola Bürck was a multiple national prizewinner at the “Jugend musiziert” competition with several instruments, in both chamber music and solo categories.

In chamber music, she has performed in various ensembles both in Germany and abroad, including in France, Portugal, Croatia, England, and Switzerland. In parallel, she was also regularly active on stage as a dancer and actress.

Viola Bürck has premiered several compositions, including works by Prof. Norbert Fröhlich, Mauricio Sotelo, Yeonju Kim, and not least by her father, Ulrich Bürck. She has received valuable artistic impulses in masterclasses with Prof. Kilian Herold, Prof. Sabine Meyer, Prof. Reiner Wehle, Prof. Johannes Peitz, and Prof. Romain Guyot.

Having played in various orchestras throughout her youth, since 2021 Viola Bürck has gained her first professional experience as a substitute with the Württemberg Philharmonic Reutlingen, the Orquestra Metropolitana de Lisboa, and the Cologne Symphony Orchestra.

Since August 2025, Viola Bürck has been a scholarship holder of the Kurt Masur Academy of the Dresdner Philharmonie, where she studies with Prof. Fabian Dirr and Daniel Hochstöger. At the same time, she is pursuing an additional master’s degree in the class of Prof. Ralph Manno at the University of Music and Dance Cologne.
