About the Concert

Whether in pairs, fours, or even eights – making music in a small ensemble is usually a very special joy for musicians. And a challenge – as each individual voice is present, it becomes even more important than usual to listen to one another and to "speak" directly with each other. And of course, it is also an event for the audience to hear the musicians of an orchestra, which is usually experienced as a large whole, in a much more intimate setting. Here, you can do this for an entire day or evening: at every full hour, an ensemble of musicians from the Dresden Philharmonic presents itself, often in unusual combinations with their favourite works. And because our chief conductor Sir Donald Runnicles loves chamber music, he sits down at the piano with his wife Adelle – who is also an accomplished pianist – and offers the opportunity to experience him from a completely different musical perspective.

Starts at every full hour

In cooperation with the Friends of the Dresden Philharmonic

Sir Donald Runnicles

Chief Conductor of the Dresdner Philharmonie

Introducing Sir Donald Runnicles! More pictures & videos of our new Chief Conductor can be found here.

Sir Donald Runnicles has been Chief Conductor of the Dresden Philharmonic since the 2025/26 season. In his concerts, he aims to combine the familiar with the new, as well as emotional immediacy with intellectual depth. In the summer of 2026, the Scottish-born conductor will conclude his 17-year tenure as General Music Director of the Deutsche Oper Berlin. He champions the principle of quality over quantity and has thus forged close artistic ties with renowned institutions worldwide, both in the opera pit and on the concert stage.
