Do you hear music differently when you know how it was created? This may well be the case with Tchaikovsky's Fourth Symphony. He had allowed himself to be persuaded to marry a woman, even though he loved men. A big mistake, as he soon realised, which drove him to a complete mental breakdown. He wrote his inner struggles, his guilty conscience towards his wife, all the games of hide-and-seek with his inclinations into this symphony. But whether we know the story or not, its deep emotional content - it is also called "The Tragic" - still has an immediate effect today.
Before that, palace organist Olivier Latry will perform the orchestral version of an organ work by Liszt, which was thought to be lost and which he rediscovered himself in a Parisian villa
