About the Concert

Does one hear music differently when one knows how it came about? With Tchaikovsky's Fourth Symphony, that could be the case. He had been persuaded to marry a woman, even though he loved men. A big mistake, as he quickly realized, which drove him to a complete mental breakdown. He incorporated his inner struggles, his guilt towards his wife, all the hiding of his inclinations into this symphony. But whether we know the story or not, its deep emotional content, also known as "The Tragic," still has an immediate impact today. Before that, Palace organist Olivier Latry will present the orchestral version of a lost organ work by Liszt, which he himself rediscovered in a Parisian villa.
