Alexander Will received cello lessons from Cornelia Pietsch and Thomas Georgi in Frankfurt (Oder) from the age of six. He studied with Brunhard Böhme at the Hochschule für Musik Franz Liszt Weimar and was a participant at the Meadowmount School of Music with Hans Jørgen Jensen in the USA. He also took part in master classes with Martin Ostertag, Christoph Richter and Bernhard Gmelin, among others. He received prizes at the national competition Jugend musiziert and was a scholarship holder of the Gerda- und Luigi-Pradé-Stiftung, the state of Thuringia and the Richard-Wagner-Stiftung.
He gained orchestral experience as solo cellist of the German Music School Orchestra and as a substitute of the Staatskapelle Weimar.
Alexander Will was a member of the UBS Verbier Festival Orchestra, the Cello Academy and the Villa Musica Foundation. Chamber music-wise, he has been playing concerts in Switzerland and abroad with the eteria klaviertrio since 2000 and has also performed at the Oberstdorfer Musiksommer and the Orpheum Festtage for the promotion of young soloists at the Tonhalle Zurich.
In November 2017, his first CD, recorded together with pianist Friedrich Thomas, was released by CPO with works for cello and piano by Albert Dietrich, a contemporary of Brahms and Schumann. He has been a member of the Dresden Philharmonic since 2004.
