Bar Avni

In 2024, Bar Avni won the "La Maestra" competition in Paris, sweeping five additional prizes. This success led to a fruitful collaboration and further concerts with the Paris Mozart Orchestra and Claire Gibault.

Praised by Diapason for her dynamic presence and refined musicality, she thrives on collaborations with mentors such as Yoav Talmi, Barbara Hannigan, Thomas Morris and Ayelet Geva. A key element of her artistry is programming – making bold choices and shaping concerts as complete experiences, much like designing a menu. A striking example is her debut album, which was released by Alpha Classics in February 2026, with the Orchestre National Bordeaux Aquitaine, which pairs Charlotte Sohy, Darius Milhaud, Carl Philipp Emanuel Bach and Igor Stravinsky.

From 2021 to 2024, Bar Avni served as Chief Conductor of the Bayer Philharmoniker in Leverkusen, Germany, during her Bayer Kultur residency.

Bar Avni brings workshops to schools, hospitals, corporate events, viewing conducting as a powerful tool for communication – enhancing body awareness, nonverbal expression and self-confidence. Together with musicians, she shapes inclusive experiences that invite everyone to take part, without the need for prior knowledge.

Born in Israel and trained as a percussionist, Bar Avni studied conducting with Yoav Talmi, Martin Sieghart and Ulrich Windfuhr. She has also gained experience assisting conductors such as Gustavo Dudamel, Klaus Mäkelä, Myung-Whun Chung and Matthias Pintscher.

In the 2025/26 season, Bar premieres "The White Book" by Laura Bowler, with text by Nobel laureate Han Kang, composed for and sang by Barbara Hannigan. The work is co-commissioned by the London Symphony, Gothenburg Symphony Orchestra and Copenhagen Philharmonic Orchestra. Bar Avni also returns to Orchestre de Paris and Orchestre National Bordeaux Aquitaine, while making debuts with WDR Symphony Orchestra, Warsaw Philharmonic Orchestra, Radio Filharmonisch Orkest in the Netherlands, SWR Symphony Orchestra, Orchestre de Chambre de Lausanne and Gulbenkian Orchestra.

This season's collaborations with leading soloists include Benjamin Bernheim, Isata Kanneh-Mason, Alon Sariel, Ava Bahari, Joshua Redman, Ofra Yizhaki, Nadav Lev and Marie-Ange Nguci. Furthermore, Bar Avni has been named Villa Albertine Artist in Residence for 2026 and is a jury member of the composition prize "Prix Élan" that same year.
