Hanno Felthaus, born in 1967, first learned the violin before turning to the viola in 1980. In 1990 he began his studies at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater in Hamburg with Hirofumi Fukai. During his studies he already pursued solo activities, among others with the chamber orchestra of the university. He participated in master classes with Paul Kohnen and Fjodor Drujinin and did an internship with the Philharmonic State Orchestra Hamburg in the season 1993/94. In 1994 and 1996 he was second prize winner of the Elise Meyer Foundation University Competition, and gained additional experience with the Staatstheater Oldenburg. In August 1996 he became principal violist with the Norddeutsche Philharmonie Rostock. Since August 2000 Hanno Felthaus has been Coordinated Principal Violist of the Dresden Philharmonic Orchestra.
