Baritone Julian Orlishausen received his basic musical training at the Windsbacher Knabenchor. He supplemented his vocal studies at the University of Music Würzburg with Prof. Endrik Wottrich with numerous masterclasses with Cheryl Studer, Francisco Araiza, Grace Bumbry, Michael Volle and Edda Moser, among others.
His successful debut at the Leipzig Opera was quickly followed by numerous engagements at, among others, the Kassel State Theater, the Chemnitz Theater, the Vienna Volksoper and the Stuttgart State Opera. Where he could be seen in roles such as Dr. Falke in "Die Fledermaus" by Strauß, Edwin in "Die Csárdásfürstin" by Kálmán, Marcello in "La Bohème" and Sharpless in "Madame Butterfly" by Puccini, Sid in "Albert Herring" by Britten, as Count in "Der Wildschütz" and Tsar in "Zar und Zimmermann" by Lortzing and as Don Giovanni in the opera of the same name by Mozart. He has also been a guest at numerous festivals, including the International Gluck Festival in Nuremberg, the Handel Festival in Halle, the Franconian Summer Festival and the Tyrolean Festival in Erl.
In addition to opera, the young artist is also active in the concert hall. He has already performed in numerous important concert halls, including the Bamberg Konzerthalle, the Alte Oper Frankfurt, the Philharmonie am Gasteig Munich, the Konzerthaus and the Philharmonie Berlin. He has worked with the orchestra of the Deutsche Oper Berlin, the Dresden Philharmonic, the Stuttgart State Orchestra, the Munich Symphony Orchestra, the Bamberg Symphony Orchestra, the Kammervirtuosen Berlin, the Gewandhausorchester Leipzig and the Deutsches Symphonie-Orchester (DSO) Berlin under conductors such as Ulf Schirmer, Philippe Auguin, Lothar Koenigs, Michael Sanderling, Daniel Klajner, Rudolf Bibl, Dimitri Jurowski, Alfred Eschwé and Gustav Kuhn.
Among the highlights of his previous performances are Schubert's "Winterreise" with the renowned song accompanist Gerold Huber, Orff's "Carmina Burana" at the Philharmonie am Gasteig in Munich, Bach's Magnificat with the Bamberg Symphony Orchestra at the Bamberg Philharmonic Hall, Bach's "Christmas Oratorio" and the memorial concert for the bombing of Dresden with the Dresden Kreuzchor, and the "St. John Passion" with the Windsbacher Knabenchor at the Herkulessaal in Munich. At the Stuttgart State Opera, he celebrated an overwhelming success with Gustav Mahler's "Lieder eines fahrenden Gesellen" together with the Stuttgart Ballet. He most recently returned to the Vienna Volksoper as Sid in "Albert Herring" by Benjamin Britten, directed by Brigitte Fassbaender.
Other recent highlights included a tour of Japan with the Seefestspiele Mörbisch as Dr. Falke in "Die Fledermaus" and his debuts at the Leipzig Opera as the Father in Humperdinck's "Hänsel und Gretel" and 1st Nazarene in Strauss' "Salome", as well as at the Opéra National de Lyon as Tschang Ling in Zemlinsky's "Der Kreidekreis" under Lothar Koenigs. At the Tyrolean Festival Erl, he celebrated a highly acclaimed success as Ratefreund in the ORF-broadcast production of Braunfels' "The Birds" under the baton of Lothar Zagrosek and made his debut at the Trans-Siberian Art Festival in Novosibirsk as Wolfram in Wagner's "Tannhäuser".
In spring 2022, Julian Orlishausen returned to the Opéra National de Lyon for a new production of Franz Schreker's opera "Irrelohe" directed by David Bösch and conducted by Bernhard Kontarsky and was celebrated by the international press for his interpretation of Peter. He also made his US debut in Minneapolis with Mahler's 8th Symphony and the Minnesota Orchestra under Osmo Vänskä. This concert has been released on CD by the renowned label BIS Records.
Performances in 2023/24 took him to the Gewandhaus Leipzig with the MDR Symphony Orchestra, to the Konzerthaus Berlin with the Dresden Kreuzchor, to Budapest with the Helsinki Baroque Orchestra, to Lugano with to Lugano with I Barocchisti and Diego Fasolis, as Tsching Ling to the Badisches Staatstheater Karlsruhe and again to the Opéra National de Lyon as Geisterbote in a new production of "Die Frau ohne Schatten" by Strauss under Daniele Rustioni.
Julian Orlishausen has been a member of the Staatstheater Darmstadt ensemble since 2018/19 and has already appeared there as Renato in "Un ballo in maschera", Germont in "La Traviata", as Don Giovanni, Marcello in "La Bohème", as Enrico in "Lucia di Lammermoor", as Belcore in "L'elisir d'amore", as Heerrufer in "Lohengrin", and as Orest in "Elektra" as well as Kurwenal in "Tristan und Isolde" and as Wozzeck.
