Kateřina Ochmanová

Kateřina Ochmanová is a graduate of the Academy of Performing Arts in Prague (with Ivo Kahánek) and has won several awards as répétiteur (International Antonín Vocal Competition Dvořák, International Vocal Competition Olomouc, Jan Vychytil Cello Competition, etc.). Since 2015, she is a teacher of piano, chamber music and accompanist of string instruments at the Pardubice Conservatory.

Kateřina was born in Semily into a family of musicians. In addition to playing the piano, she has been also studied accordion, singing and chamber music. She received several awards in a national competition for music universities in all these disciplines. During her studies at the Pardubice Conservatory (in Jana Turková's class) she formed a piano duo with Martin Smutný, and together they won the 2nd place and a special prize for the best performance of Antonín Dvořák's work at the Schubert International Piano Competition. The Ochmanová-Smutný Duo performed at the Young Stage Festival and with the cooperation of Pardubice Chamber Philharmonic Orchestra "Carnival of the Animals" by C. Saint- Saëns. In the following year, Kateřina Ochmanová won the 2nd prize at the Novák International Piano Competition in Kamenice nad Lipou.

As a soloist she has performed with the Chamber Philharmonic Orchestra Pardubice, Janáček Chamber Orchestra, Academic Chamber Soloists, Podkrkonoše Symphony Orchestra and Turnov Orchestral Association. She has also participated in many masterclasses (Peter Frankl, Markus Schirmer, Avedis Kouyoumdjian, Peter Nagy, Jan Jiraský, Alena Vlasáková) and was selected as one of the active participants in masterclass with the world-renowned pianist and specialist in the interpretation of J. S. Bach, Angela Hewitt in Leipzig. She spent one academic year at the University of Dresden in the class of Arkadi Zenzipér as participant of the Erasmus programme.

Kateřina Ochmanová is a founding member of the Quasi Trio (David Šimeček – clarinet, Judita Škodová – cello). The trio has completed a two-year internship in Paris with the world-famous Trio Wanderer, a master's studies in chamber music at the Academy of Performing Arts in Prague, a postgraduate programme at the University of Vienna and at the European Academy of Chamber Music which brings together the most promising young ensembles in Europe. The Quasi Trio regularly appears in Czech venues and has also performed as a trio accompanied by orchestras (PKF – Prague Philharmonia, Vinohrady Symphony Orchestra).

Being also very passionate about drawing, Kateřina Ochmanová has already collaborated with several publishers as a book illustrator.
