Martin Levicky

The Czech pianist Martin Levický (*1986) achieved numerous victories in national and international piano competitions already during his childhood. Among his most significant successes are first prize at the Internationalen Johann Nepomuk Hummel Competition in Bratislava (2011), first prize at the Bohuslav Martinů Competition in Prague, as well as awards at the International Smetana Competition in Pilsen and the Leoš Janáček Competition in Brno. In 2003, he was also awarded a prize for the best interpretation of a work by Arnold Schoenberg at the Prague–Vienna–Budapest Festival in Austria.

 

At the age of twelve, he made his debut with the Prague Philharmonia under the baton of Gaetano Delogu in the Spanish Hall of Prague Castle. Since then, he has performed as a soloist with renowned orchestras such as the Slovak Philharmonic, the Brno Philharmonic, and the Moravian Philharmonic Olomouc, collaborating with conductors including Peter Altrichter, Petr Vronský, and Emmanuel Siffert.

 

Martin Levický gained international recognition through two recitals at the Beethovenfest in Bonn, as well as appearances in Vienna, Kraków, the United States (Sewanee), and Japan (Kyoto). A significant milestone in his career was his collaboration with the world-class cellist Frans Helmerson in Santander, as well as performing with the legendary violinist Josef Suk. As part of the "Masters on Tour" series, he also appeared in the Rachmaninoff Hall of the Moscow Conservatory.

 

He completed his studies at the Academy of Performing Arts in Prague under Peter Toperczer and Boris Krajný. His education was further enriched through masterclasses with distinguished artists such as Dmitri Bashkirov, Mikhail Voskresensky, Jacques Rouvier, Matti Raekallio, and Boris Berman.
