About the Concert

Persecution, humiliation, fear - the diaries of Dresden Romance professor Victor Klemperer from the time of National Socialism vividly and depressingly describe the persecution of Jews from 1933. Even Jews who converted to Christianity like Klemperer were expelled from their positions and later from their homes, they were monitored and intimidated. Their desperate situation often drove them to suicide. Klemperer survived the time, not least through writing. Published in 1995, Klemperer's diaries immediately became bestsellers. In them, he appears as a precise and critical, but also self-critical observer of his time and his milieu. The Philharmonic Choir Dresden, together with mezzo-soprano Anna Moriová, will perform works by composers that were composed in concentration camps, were banned, or were instrumentalized by the authorities, as well as contemporary works by Jewish artists, based on texts from the diaries.
