Prof. Tobias Glöckler has been associate principal double bass of the Dresden Philharmonic Orchestra since 1990. He is a prizewinner of the International ISB Double Bass Competition in the USA. After studying with Prof. Konrad Siebach at the Leipzig Academy of Music, he improved his skills with Ulrich Lau (Stuttgart) and Jeff Bradetich (Chicago/USA).
As a double bass soloist, he has played with various orchestras (Dresden Philharmonic Orchestra, Brandenburg State Orchestra Frankfurt, Mecklenburg Baroque Orchestra Schwerin) and has been a guest at international music festivals. He is a founding member and solo bassist of the ensemble Frauenkirche Dresden. He also devotes himself intensively to the chamber music repertoire with the Dresden String Quintet.
He has been teaching at the Hochschule für Musik Dresden for many years, where he was appointed professor in 2024. He is also a mentor at the Kurt Masur Academy of the Dresden Philharmonic Orchestra. He has held numerous masterclasses in Germany and abroad (Berlin, London, New York, Prague, Houston, Indianapolis, Sao Paulo). He is also regularly appointed as a juror for international competitions in the USA, Brazil, Italy and Germany.
He is a successful editor of Urtext music editions for the renowned music publishers Henle and Breitkopf & Härtel (German Music Edition Award). He was awarded the special prize for historical performance practice by the International Society of Bassists for his services to historical Viennese double bass tuning.
