Yeeun Choi, born in Seoul, began taking violin lessons at the age of four and attended the Seoul Arts Center’s program for gifted students before beginning her studies. She had already won several competitions while still in Korea.
She completed her bachelor’s degree under Prof. Kyung-Sun Lee at Seoul National University. She then moved to Germany to pursue her master’s degree under Prof. Susanne Yoko Henkel at the Cologne University of Music and Dance and her master class studies under Prof. Carolin Widmann at the Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy University of Music and Theater in Leipzig—both with honors.
In addition to her orchestral work, she is deeply committed to chamber music: In 2019, she and her string trio won first prize and the audience prize at the chamber music competition held by the HMT Leipzig. Her artistic work has been supported by a scholarship from Yehudi Menuhin Live Music Now Leipzig and a state scholarship from the Free State of Saxony. She is a regular member of the Freies Ensemble Dresden and performs as a guest with the renowned Wald Ensemble, which brings together musicians from Europe’s leading orchestras.
After a stint as a first violinist on a fixed-term contract with the Nuremberg State Philharmonic, she has been a permanent member of the first violins in the Dresden Philharmonic since August 2022.
