About the Concert

The Herdmann children are the worst of all time - they steal, annoy the neighbors, lie, and are just impossible. These children have now somehow taken over the leading roles in the Christmas nativity play, even though they don't know the Christmas story at all. Everyone expects the worst performance ever. But it turns out differently - the Herdmanns' perspective on the events at the manger turns the nativity play into a very special, different performance. Let yourselves be surprised. A musical Christmas story based on the book of the same name by Barbara Robinson. Text adaptation and composition by Philipp Matthias Kaufmann.

Biographies

Milko Kersten

Milko Kersten is an orchestra educator at the Heinrich-Schütz-Konservatorium in Dresden, professor of ensemble work at the Hochschule für Musik Dresden, freelance conductor, Musical Director of the Serkowitzer Volksoper, and President of the Sächsischer Musikrat. Since 2006, he has conducted an annual family concert with his students of the Heinrich-Schütz-Konservatorium, which is organized in collaboration with members of the Dresden Philharmonic.

Matthias Reichwald

Matthias Reichwald studied at the Hochschule für Schauspielkunst Ernst Busch in Berlin and now lives in Dresden, where he has appeared in numerous productions at the Staatsschauspiel in recent years. He also works regularly as an opera and theater director, as a speaker, and as a lecturer in acting in German-speaking countries.

Jugendsinfonieorchester am Heinrich-Schütz-Konservatorium

In the Dresdner Jugendsinfonieorchester am Heinrich-Schütz-Konservatorium, 64 students aged 13 to 21 play symphonic orchestral pieces in a range of styles. The aim is not to prepare for a possible future career as a musician, but to experience joy while playing, and to develop technical skills, coordination and social skills. The Dresden Philharmonic has been the youth orchestra's partner ensemble since 2006.
