Kahchun Wong

Principal Guest Conductor

Top class in our concert hall - this undoubtedly includes Kahchun Wong, who we welcome back to the podium as Principal Guest Conductor in the 2024/25 season. He has already introduced himself to Dresden audiences with Mahler, Beethoven, Brahms and contemporary works by composers of Asian origin, and this season it is also important to him to combine music from West and East in his programs.

Dresden audiences can look forward to three programs with him, in which he conducts Antonín Dvořák's Symphony No. 9 'From the New World', Peter Tchaikovsky's Fourth Symphony and Igor Stravinsky's 'Firebird', among others.

› I feel very honored to be able to work as a young conductor with the musicians of the Dresden Philharmonic. Not only for the joint performances of the core repertoire, which they live and breathe, but also for their willingness to connect with my culture. ‹

Pascal Dusapin

Composer in Residence

This season's focus is on Pascal Dusapin, a composer who has been called the "French Wolfgang Rihm. Why this comparison? Perhaps because he is just as famous in France as his German colleague. And because he is also extremely versatile.

The Dresden Philharmonic, conducted by Kent Nagano, will premiere an important part of his planned opera "Antigone" (soloist: Christel Loetzsch). In addition, "Khôra", a work for string orchestra, will be performed, and chamber music works are also planned.

› I always tell stories. Even in my instrumental music there are always hidden stories. And that's why I love opera, because I can put something of the world into it. ‹

Olivier Latry

Palace organist

Olivier Latry already made his mark on the hearts of Dresden's organ audiences during his first residency in 2017/18. He helped inaugurate the Eule Concert Hall organ and gave his first recitals on it. In the seasons that followed, he returned regularly with great success.

Now the titular organist of Notre-Dame in Paris is back with us as "palace organist": Together with Emmanuel Pahud, he will perform works for organ and organ/flute by French composers, arrangements of organ pieces by Franz Liszt with orchestra, the traditional New Year's Eve organ concert, and a program for four-handed organ with his wife, Shin-Young Lee.

zitat
› For me, every new organ is a new experience. It's like meeting a new chamber music partner every time we play together. And of course the organ can't talk. But it tells me: 'This works, this doesn't work, try something else'. ‹
