Richard Strauss' "Also sprach Zarathustra" begins with one of the most famous passages in the history of music, which many know from the film "2001: A Space Odyssey." Inspired by a philosophical book by Friedrich Nietzsche, Strauss did not want to tell a story, but rather make great ideas and moods audible, using a huge orchestra and even an organ. Particularly exciting is the alternation between monumental waves of sound and quiet, reflective moments. In contrast, Sergei Prokofiev's First Symphony, the so-called "Classical Symphony," is short, lively, and full of humor. Prokofiev imagined how a composer like Haydn would sound in the 20th century. It is precisely this blend of familiar sound and playful modernity that makes it so popular to this day.Sergei Prokofiev
