About the Concert

Duration: approx. 1 hr without intermission

Richard Strauss' "Thus Spoke Zarathustra" begins with one of the most famous passages in music history, which many know from the film "2001: A Space Odyssey." Inspired by a philosophical book by Friedrich Nietzsche, Strauss did not want to tell a story but to make great ideas and moods audible, using a huge orchestra and even an organ. The contrast between monumental sound waves and quiet, contemplative moments is particularly exciting. In stark contrast is Sergei Prokofiev's First Symphony, the so-called "Classical Symphony": short, lively, and full of humour. Prokofiev imagined how a composer like Haydn would sound in the 20th century. It is precisely this blend of familiar sound and winking modernity that makes it so popular to this day.

At our abgeFRACKt concerts, things are quite different: the orchestra does not sit in tails on stage. No one needs to fear clapping at the wrong moment.
Those who wish to learn more about the music can download the free Wolfgang app onto their smartphone and receive live explanations about the piece during the concert. Afterwards, we invite you to stay and enjoy the abgeFRACKt cocktail (also non-alcoholic), the house lemonade, a glass of wine or beer at Café "Tutti," to relax and chat with musicians from the orchestra.
