About the Concert

Duration: approx. 1 hr without intermission

Rimsky-Korsakov's "Scheherazade" transports the audience into a colorful world from the stories of "One Thousand and One Nights". The music thrives on strong contrasts, powerful orchestral sounds meet a smooth solo violin, embodying the storyteller Scheherazade. Each of the four movements tells its own scene full of adventure, romance, and mystery. Rimsky-Korsakov was a master of orchestration, and one can almost hear waves, storms, and exotic landscapes. A recurring melody of the solo violin connects the episodes like a thread. An imaginative musical journey (not only) for all who love fairy tales!

Aziz Shokhakimov

The Uzbek-born conductor Aziz Shokhakimov is Music Director and Artistic Director of the Orchestre Philharmonique de Strasbourg, as well as Artistic Director of the Tekfen Philharmonic Orchestra in Turkey. He also conducts renowned orchestras throughout Europe, North America and Asia, with the symphonic repertoire being just as much his forte as opera. He made his debut at the age of just 13 with the Uzbekistan National Symphony Orchestra; successes in competitions a few years later fuelled the start of his career.
