The accordion is known to many primarily from folk music – but in 2026 it will finally receive the attention it deserves as Instrument of the Year, even in the concert hall. And yes: it can do much more than just be loud! The composer Dobrinka Tabakova refers to it as a "machine with a soul" – an instrument made of many small mechanical parts that still sounds like a living breath. In her accordion concert "Sublime Dreams of Living Machines," she showcases this very blend of emotion, surprising sounds, and contemplation about humanity and technology.Dobrinka Tabakova
