About the Concert

Duration: approx. 1 hr without intermission

The accordion is known to many primarily from folk music – but in 2026 it will finally receive the attention it deserves as Instrument of the Year, even in the concert hall. And yes: it can do much more than just be loud! The composer Dobrinka Tabakova refers to it as a "machine with a soul" – an instrument made of many small mechanical parts that still sounds like a living breath. In her accordion concert "Sublime Dreams of Living Machines," she showcases this very blend of emotion, surprising sounds, and contemplation about humanity and technology.
Also, the opera "The Cunning Little Vixen" by the Czech composer Leoš Janáček is more surprising than the title suggests. It is not a cute animal fairy tale, but rather tells of nature, freedom, and the cycle of life. The orchestra serves as the true engine of the narrative and a poetic commentator on the events: it comments on the unspoken desires of humans as well as the energy, freedom, and vulnerability of animals.

At our abgeFRACKt concerts, things are a bit different: the orchestra does not sit in tails on stage. No one needs to worry about clapping at the wrong moment.

Biographies

Kerem Hasan

Kerem Hasan is regarded as one of the most exciting young conductors from the UK. By winning the Nestlé and Salzburg Festival Young Conductors Award in 2017, he laid the foundations for his international career. His recent engagements have included appearances with the English National Opera, the Yomiuri Nippon Symphony Orchestra and the Danish National Symphony Orchestra. From 2019 to 2023, he was Principal Conductor of the Tiroler Symphonieorchester, and since summer 2025 he has been Principal Guest Conductor of the Noord Nederlands Orkest.

Ksenija Sidorova

Ksenija Sidorova is hailed as "revelatory" and praised for her vibrant stage presence and virtuosity. The Riga-born musician is regarded as a leading ambassador for the classical accordion and continually contributes to expanding the repertoire for her instrument by commissioning new works from contemporary composers and entering into special collaborations. She performs with leading orchestras worldwide as well as in chamber music ensembles and as a soloist
